Remember too, that many city centre restaurants, cafes and bars accept the Chester Gift Card, so you could always gift a card to be redeemed on a day and at a time to suit.

1. Olive Tree Brasserie

There’s a glass of fizz and a gift for mum included when you book for Mother’s Day at Olive Tree Brasserie.

As well as contemporary, family-style Greek cuisine there’s an extensive cocktail and beer menu, and they even offer a set-price Sunday roast alongside their regular fare. Starters include Halloumi pastourma and sweet potato falafel and mains of roast topside of beef, roast chicken and vegan roast.

This striking former church building has a impressive interior complete with stained-glass windows, velvet booths and luxury furnishings across two bars. A great venue whether you’re sipping cocktails, enjoying an afternoon drink or listening and dancing to some Buble classics.

4. Bollicini

Few countries treat their mums the way Italy treats hers, so it’s no surprise to find that Italian restaurant Bollicini is holding a Festa della Mamma this Sunday so you can honour your mum in style.

Their special Mother’s Day menu includes a Secondi (that’s the main to the non-Italians among us) of Tranicio di Salmone: pan-friend salmon supreme with stir-fried vegetables and ratatouille. Just one of many delicious dishes to tempt you through their door.

Or, if there’s just you and your mum, go for it with a chateaubriand sharing fillet for two with parmesan truffle fries. And of course, there’s nothing stopping you from exploring the extensive drinks menu and treating yourselves to a cocktail or two…

7. Marmalade

Of course, no-one is saying you have to have alcohol to toast your mum – a steaming cup of fine tea or frothy coffee will do just as well. But at Marmalade you can actually have a cheeky glass of Prosecco if that’s what you need, because as well as selling delicious homemade cakes, lunches and a range of hot and cold drinks,  it is also a licensed cafe.  It’s also worth noting that almost everything they offer can be gluten free.

Booking is highly recommended. Reserve a table by the window and watch the world go by in the city street below.

8. Porta Wine & Tapas Bar

Unusually, this is one restaurant where you don’t have to book. Porta is an independent tapas bar and is walk-in (or take-out) only.. but it’s a popular venue so bear that in mind when you go.  A quick look at the menu and we are salivating at the thought of the Andalucian-style fried squid with alioli and the Basque burnt cheesecake with Bramley apple compote to follow.

Alongside the wide range of delicious tapas they offer an extensive drinks menu that includes Sherry, Sangria, Spanish beers and Cava. Porta is open on Sundays from noon to 9pm.

There’s a definite French twist to the Mother’s Day celebrations at Chez Jules, not least because it’s a French restaurant! They’re helping you celebrate in style with a special three-course Mother’s Day menu for £24.95. Expect to find culinary delights such as duck leg croquette to start, followed by fillet of seabass and rounded off with a classic vanilla creme brulee.  There’s lots more to choose from, of course, with options for special dietary requirements, too.

On Sundays Chez Jules is open from noon to 9pm and you can book via the website (see link, above) or give them a call.
