November 10, 2018 at 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

One of classical music’s best-kept secrets, the Orchestra of St John’s, Smith Square in London, will join the Choir of Chester Cathedral this November in a magnificent concert to commemorate 100 years since the end of conflict in World War I.

Chester Cathedral Choir and the Orchestra of St John’s will perform Faure’s Requiem in ‘A Concert of Remembrance’ on Saturday 10 November at 7.30pm at Chester Cathedral.  The concert will also include poetry about the First World War and read by Nick Fry.

Philip Rushforth and John Lubbock will conduct the choir and orchestra.

The Orchestra of St John’s have performed all over the world including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall Director of Music for Chester Cathedral, Philip Rushforth notes: “Fauré’s Requiem is a beautiful and reflective piece of music.  It is less about the fear of death and more about the acceptance of death as a happy deliverance.”

“It is a lovely work to perform in concert with a world-class orchestra, with the mood centred on reflection and remembrance on the centenary of the Armistice of World War I.”

Tickets for the concert are £12.50 & £20 and are available from the Chester Cathedral Box Office on 01244 500959, by clicking to chestercathedral.com/events or in person at the Cathedral Welcome Desk.
