With the countdown until the annual Chester Duck Race well underway, CH1ChesterBID has unveiled a special duck dressed head to toe in purple that it hopes will sail to glory on the River Dee.
As part of the fundraising event, the city’s Business Improvement District (BID) has chosen to decorate its corporate duck – named Purple Petunia – in recognition of Chester’s recently secured Purple Flag status.
The popular Chester Duck Race takes place on September 22, with hundreds of spectators expected to watch on as thousands of yellow, pink and blue ducks race on the river to help raise money for the Countess of Chester’s Babygrow Appeal.
Judy Tagell, Marketing Manager at CH1ChesterBID, said; “We’ve always supported the Chester Duck Race and this year is no different with Purple Petunia set to represent the 500-plus businesses that are members of CH1ChesterBID.
“The purple theme reflects the Purple Flag status that we achieved earlier this year, which recognises UK towns and cities with outstanding night time economies.
“It’s something we’re exceptionally proud of and of course we’d love to see our duck win the race, but it’s fantastic to be part of something that’s lots of fun and raises money for a really worthwhile cause.”
