Storyhouse announces Moonlight Flicks open air cinema will return this summer.

The award-winning theatre, cinema and library has partnered with Chester Cathedral to screen films from the stunning backdrop of the Dean’s Field.

The 2020 programme kicks off on Tuesday 14 July and includes hits Sister Act, Rocketman, Downton Abbey, Moulin Rouge, Yesterday, Grease, Mean Girls, Knives Out, Mary Poppins Returns and Back To The Future.

Andrew Bentley, CEO of Storyhouse said:
We are delighted to be announcing that Moonlight Flicks is returning to the city this summer in its new location at the Dean’s Field. Earlier this week the government announced a rescue package for the arts to help closed theatres, in reality we need to get back to work and preserve jobs, not go into hibernation. Storyhouse can’t and won’t be closing and Moonlight Flicks alongside Moonlight Drive is one of many initiatives we are launching to try to assist our very real fight for survival.

Storyhouse has invested in a brand new 30ft screen and moved from the usual location in Chester Roman Gardens to the Catherdral’s Dean’s Field to enable social distancing. Audience members will be given a timed entrance slot to avoid congestion and queuing on arrival.

Nicky Beaumont, Film and Digital Programme Manager at Storyhouse said:
We have a programme of joyous movies screened all summer in the cathedral’s gorgeous Dean’s Field. Whether it’s date night, a summer holiday treat with the kids or an evening out with friends we think there’s something on the bill for everyone. We look forward to seeing audiences every year, and this season even more so!’

Tickets are from £12.50 plus booking fees or £11.25 and no booking fees for Storyhouse Members. Child under 15 years £9.00 no booking fee (Members: £8.10). There will be drinks and Storyhouse’s famous Twelfth Slice pizza oven on site available to order.
