The Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup Set to Round Off Chester Polo Club’s 2018 Season

Chester Polo Club’s final preparations are now well underway ahead of the upcoming Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup. The last tournament of 2018 will take place at Chester Racecourse on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 September. Spectators are encouraged to get down to the Roodee to watch the teams compete on the historic site.

The 2018 season kicked off in style as team Laurent-Perrier secured the silverware in a nail-biting final on the Roodee at the LDF International Polo Tournament back in June. Next month will see Laurent-Perrier fight to retain their championship following their success earlier in the year.

Today the club announced the team sponsors; Boodles, Laurent-Perrier, Signature Living and Quilter each representing one of the four squads, whilst tournament umpires will be sponsored by Stella Artois.

Boodles Chairman Nicholas Wainwright said:
“As a long-standing partner of Chester Race Company, Boodles are once again thrilled to sponsor this event and Chester Polo Club’s final tournament of the year. The famous ‘sport of kings’ has never been so exciting, with four teams and their ponies due to battle it out across the field with strength, grace and style.”  Representatives from the luxury jeweller will be in attendance on the day with their dazzling collection. Alongside Boodles, brands new to Chester Polo including Hackett and HR Owen Maserati will be showcasing their luxury products.

Law firm, Eversheds Sutherland are set to sponsor of the Most Valuable Player and the age-old tradition of Divot Stomping. The players and teams will be awarded during a presentation on Saturday, as well as the Best Playing Pony, sponsored by Harrogate Spring Water.

In addition to the action on the pitch, the Saturday brings extra activities for families with regional parent publication ParentFolk staging a take-over in the family zone. Between chukkas parents can get down to the beats of ParentFolk’s resident DJ, whilst your littlefolk can enjoy their own afternoon line up of activities including screen printing polo posters, decorating pony masks, participating in flower craft and can also receiving luxury treatments at the glitter bar! Younger spectators inspired to play the thrilling sport can practice their swing on a ‘have a go Polo pony’ and enjoy the free pony rides on offer*.

ParentFolk founder Nicola Spindler said:
“ParentFolk events are popping up across the region as we recognise the desire for families to have cooler, alternative things to do together, so we welcomed the opportunity to once again team up with Chester Race Company and deliver a memorable experience for families.  Supplementing a great weekend event of Polo at Chester Racecourse, we’ll be handing out copies of our publication, delivering a fun line up and Parentfolk and Littlefolk alike can expect to go home with fantastic memories of the day.”

The General Admission area is the perfect stop for a picnic where a range of independent pop-up retailers will be in attendance, offering spectators the opportunity to browse and purchase a memento between games. Entry to Semi-Finals Day (Friday) is free to all, whilst adult entry is just £8 on Finals Day (Saturday). Children aged 17 and under can attend absolutely free of charge all weekend. There is still time to secure your tickets to this fantastic weekend. Purchase your tickets online at chester-races.com/polo, over the phone – 01244 304 600, in person at the Chester Racecourse Box Office or on the gate on the day.
