The delicious Easter treats that will send you to chocolate heaven

Chocolate. Even the word is enough to have most of us reaching for the nearest bar of smooth milk, delicious dark or creamy white, because who doesn’t like it? And when better to indulge our taste for all things chocolate than Easter.

Of course, you don’t have to eat chocolate to enjoy everything it has to offer – you can drink it or even spread it on your body!

We’ve uncovered just a few of the indulgent chocolate treats you can find right here in Chester city centre to help you have a very, very Happy Easter.

1. Katie’s Tea Rooms

There’s a real retro feel to this tea room set in a beautiful Grade II listed building in the heart of the city. You can choose from a range of chocolate goodies that include Millionaire’s Shortbread and a gluten and dairy-free Chocolate Slice – but we’d opt for a steaming cup of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. It may be spring, but it’s still cold enough to need a warming cup of chocolate (basically, any excuse).

Katie’s is open every day from 10am-5pm.

2. Leonidas

You’ll always find fans of all things chocolate sitting outside Leonidas as you can dine at their chocolate cafe as well as take away their goodies. Sit down for a crepe drizzled with chocolate and topped with chunks, washed down with one of the tastiest hot chocolate drinks in town. There are plenty of goodies to buy in the shop.. or if you take a look at their website you’ll spot their luxury Easter hamper on sale for £37.99, down from £44.40. It’s chock full of the quality goodies you’d expect from a shop that sells fresh Belgian chocolates.

3. Bella Italia

Again, there are lots of chocolate goodies to entice you into this family-friendly eatery. How about a warm chocolate brownie with white chocolate chunks, chocolate mousse or a few scoops of chocolate chip or mint chocolate gelato?

We also love the sound of the gelato choux bun – a giant choux bun filled with vanilla and chocolate gelato, rolled in Oreo crumb and served with a warm chocolate sauce. Heaven, Italian-style.

4. Lush

You don’t actually have to eat or drink chocolate to take full advantage of all it has to offer. Head to Lush for some posh chocolate body wash, which promises to hydrate and soften. Yours from £8-£15, depending on the size.

5. Hotel Chocolat

The name says it all, really. It’s a chocolate lovers’ paradise and there is SO much to choose from. We spotted boxes of tiny bunnies as well as a sheep, chick and rabbit with impossibly cute names (Wooliam, Elizapack and Rabbert!) all made out of chocolate. We also fell in love with a box of quirky chocolate quail eggs filled with caramel, praline and more. Delish.

8. Sweet Elements Patisserie

Expect to find delicious cakes such as their chocolate and caramel; a chocolate almond cake with milk chocolate caramel ganache and a dark chocolate and toasted almond glaze. Or go for a chocolate gateau: a flourless chocolate cake with a dark chocolate glaze and white chocolate feather decoration.

All the desserts are made from scratch in the kitchen above the cafe and no artificial colourings or flavourings are used. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Where: 70-72 Northgate St

9. That Beer Place

Not everyone likes to mix chocolate with beer but there are plenty that do! When we looked at what That Beer Place had already offered, we spotted a Mexican hot chocolate and a salted caramel stout as well as a raspberry, white chocolate and honeycomb sour. So chocolate is often on the drinks menu!

Go in, check them out, and enjoy a tipple of whatever takes your fancy while you’re there. It’s open 12-5pm Monday-Thursday and from 11am-10pm Friday-Saturday.
