Chester City Walls
Chester’s famous City Walls are among the most complete in Britain and one of the best historic city trails in Britain.
Chester’s city walls were originally built to defend the Roman Fortress of Deva 2000 years ago and have been walked by Roman legionaries, Anglo-Saxon warriors, Norman knights, medieval bowmen, Civil War cavaliers and Georgian dandies.
You can walk right around the city along the walls, crossing over ancient gateways and exploring magnificent towers en route.
The walls can be accessed at many places throughout the city and admission is FREE!
