Chester accountants get their charity golf day off to a tee!

A CHESTER accountancy practice has held its seventh annual golf day, raising funds for a local charity.

Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers held the event at Sutton Hall Golf Club in Sutton Weaver, which attracted representatives from an array of companies from across the North West and North Wales.

The event, held Teams of four battled it out across an 18 hole, 6618 yard, 72 par golf course.

The overall winners, who each walked away with a bottle of champagne, were Tim McMahon (formerly of NatWest Chester), Stuart Bowker (Lock Stock Self Storage Limited), Dave Thomkinson (NatWest Chester) and Matthew Canfield (Oliver & Co, Chester).

The second placed team, who received a golfing accessory each, were Mike Baird (NatWest Chester), Professor Steve Wilkinson (University of Chester), Marcus Tierney (MCJ Casings Limited) and Dave Savage (Mako Creative Solutions Limited).

And in third place, winning a bottle of wine, were John Farrell (Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers), Paul Ffoulkes (Barclays, Wrexham), Mike Forster (CA Design & Print Limited) and Louie Middlehurst (Illingworth Seddon Chartered Financial Planners).

The prize for the longest drive went to Marcus Tierney and nearest the pin to Louie Middlehurst.

Ellis & Co hosted a raffle at the end of the tournament which raised £115 for non for profit organisation My Name is NOT Cancer (MNINC).

The proceeds will go towards an ongoing campaign to make a publication by MNINC to be available to everyone affected by cancer.

The leaflet, designed to encourage young people not to lose their sense of self to the disease, was written and inspired by Megan Fletcher who was 20 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

“I am sincerely grateful to Robert and the Ellis & Co team for once again choosing to support My Name Is NOT Cancer at their recent annual charitable golf event,” said Fiona Fletcher CEO.

“Robert and his team have given My Name Is NOT Cancer valuable advice and professional support over a number of years.

“Everyone at Ellis & Co have always been approachable and provide exemplary customer service in all accounting matters.

“Going forward, My Name is NOT Cancer is to be part of the Realshare Project and I look forward to continuing the association between MNINC and Ellis & Co in the future.

“My thanks once again to everyone involved.”

The golf day was followed by a dinner and a short presentation by Robert Ellis, Director at Ellis & Co.

“Thank you to everyone who came and supported this event – helping us to raise funds for a very worthy cause,” said Robert.

“Not only does this golf day enable people to escape the office for a few hours but offers a fantastic platform for businesses to network with each other and gain new contacts.”
