A skating accountant from Chester is celebrating after winning a world-wide competition.
Alice Williamson, a trainee accountant at Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, successfully competed in the World Open Inline Figure Skating Championships 2019.
The competition, which was held in Fasano, Italy in July saw the all-female team of 10 from Altrincham pick up the winning trophy in the Synchronized Adult Free Skating category.
Alice, who has worked at Ellis & Co since 2015, first began ice skating 10 years ago, and started inline figure skating only last year.
“I was introduced to ice skating when I went for my birthday, then I started taking lessons with one of my friends who was also keen,” said Alice, 25, who stared in a skating advert back in 2013.
“I find inline harder than being on the ice, the wheels don’t have edges, whereas the blades do, which I feel I’m more used to.”
The win follows on from Alice, and her team mates, being placed second in the British Synchronised Ice Skating Championships.
Alice has been competing (and taking podium places) in international synchro competitions in Belgium since 2011, she also travelled to Budapest to compete in 2017.
“I enjoy competing and the whole experience of the trips we take as a team around the UK and Europe,” said Alice.
But of course with podium glory comes lots of training: 90 minutes twice a week at Deeside Ice Rink; and then at Altrincham in synchro which includes one hour on the ice, and one hour off the ice.
And there is no rest for the skating accountant who will be competing at Alexandra Palace Ice Rink, London in November.
“Huge congratulations to Alice’s recent success,” said Robert Ellis, director of Ellis & Co.
“We wish her every success for her next competition.”
